About All the Hands at Two Hands
Mia Semingson, along with her husband Gerald Trainor, is co-owner of Two Hands Paperie. Together their goal is to foster a community of creative people and support local artists and small cooperatives. As an artist, Mia works in a variety of media, including photography, video, performance, sculpture, encaustic, and book arts. In 1998 she received her MFA in photography and electronic media from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her work has been exhibited internationally in Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, and France as well as nationally. Mia taught photography, book arts, and video production at the University of Colorado at Boulder for eleven years. Mia loves teaching and, in addition to her workshops at the store, has taught at The Makerie and Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado.
Gerald Trainor is co-owner of Two Hands Paperie. While not really calling himself an artist, Gerald is an avid visual journaler. He carries at least one journal or notebook with him everywhere he goes and does his best to fill them up with sketches, ideas, and ephemera. Gerald studied archaeology at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and worked as an archaeologist in the western US as well as in Central America. Much of his journaling is done in southern Utah where he spends as much time as possible exploring and enjoying the prehistory of the region. Gerald is a known fountain pen enthusiast- there is always at least one of these in his pocket along with a notebook- and he enjoys comparing notes on nibs, inks, and brands with other pen geeks.
Lauren Koutavas began working at Two Hands Paperie in 2010 on the sales floor in a customer service position. She then went on to manage the store before moving to her current position behind the scenes with website development and at the Two Hands Paperie warehouse. Lauren enjoys creating in many fashions. She journals, makes handmade cards, sews, and is constantly exploring new outlets of creativity. Along with working at Two Hands, Lauren is in a graduate program studying Educational Psychology with a focus on elementary education.
